The hand has played a crucial role in the development of humans. Traumatic injuries are among the most common types of injuries and occur in small and complex areas. Therefore, it is important to evaluate their incidence and characteristics to create an appropriate therapeutic plan. The objective was to determine the characteristics of traumatic hand injuries requiring surgical treatment, attended at the University Hospital Francesc de Borja. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective and observational study of patients treated in the orthopedic and trauma surgery service at Hospital Francesc de Borja between the years 2022 and 2023. RESULTS: A total of 164 cases were attended. There was a predominance of males (76%). The most affected age group was 31-40 years (19.5%), followed by 11-20 years (18.3%). The average age was 39.9 years. The most common cause of injury was accidental (58%). The most affected hand was the right one (57.3%). The season with the most injuries was summer (30%). The most common injury was a fracture (49.4%), and the second most frequent was an incised wound (31.7%). CONCLUSIONS: Traumatic hand injuries are more frequent in men, with incidence peaks between ages 41-50 and 11-20, especially in summer. Fractures are the most common type, predominantly affecting the phalanges and 5th metacarpal, with assaults and traffic accidents as the main causes in young men. Preventive measures and multivariate studies are recommended to improve prevention and treatment.
