Resumen (ES)

Based on the observations of increased bone marrow pressure at the hip joint in
early stages of avascular necrosis as related to hip pain, patellar intraosseous hiperpressure has been
proposed as a cause of anterior knee pain. The present work assess the available data on literature
about patellar hiperpressure measurement, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and treatment.
There is sufficient evidence to consider this entity as an important etiologic factor in the patellar
pain syndrome. However, at this point, the data available is incomplete and sometimes controversial.
Therefore, several questions remain to be answered, such as the distinct aspects of patellar intraosseous
hiperpressure as an individual clinical entity, diagnostic criteria and the best alternative
for surgical treatment.
