Resumen (ES)
Locked intramedullary nailing for treatment of comminuted femoral shaft fractures
is actually one of the best treatment for this fractures. After intramedullary nailing and when the
fracture is healed, we have observed an important osteopenia in femoral shaft. V Vith this work we
have tried to knovv the loss of bone mineral contení in the femur by a non-invasive method as dual
X-ray absortiometry. We have reviewed twenty patients with comminuted femoral shaft fractures
treated by Grosse-Kempf locked intramedullary nailing. We performed dual X-ray absortiometry 10
and 20 months after injury, fínding a important loss of bone mineral contení proximal and distal to
the site of the fracture and an increase of bone mineral content at the fracfure's site.
