Resumen (ES)

Bone lengthening by means of physeal distraction
has been used from quite a time taking advance of the physeal
plate as the point of distraction, sparing the metaphysis
from the epiphysis. There are several systems and lengthening
protocols, with certain controversy about producing a
fracture or an epiphysiolisis to initiate distraction. In our study
we have assessed by means of histomorphometry and histilogy
the initial phases of physeal distraction, with a pattern of
elongation of 0,5 mm per day using an external fixator applied
to the right femur by means of four Kirschner wires, the left femur
serving as a control. The results were statistically analysed
using the t-tests for paired data and the wilcoxon matched-
pairs test.
