Resumen (ES)

Objective: To evaluate the clinical results of musculocutaneous flaps in the reconstruction of defects after extended
oncological surgery for soft tissue sarcomas. Material and methods: A retrospective and descriptive study of 30 patients
was carried out, 16 (53,3%) men and 14 (46,7%) women, with a mean age of 65,1 years (20-98) who had diagnosed with
different types of soft tissue sarcomas and had undergone musculocutaneous flap surgery between 2009 and 2020.
Demographic data, staging and oncological subtype, diagnoses, surgical treatment performed and follow-up results were
evaluated, as well as the incidence of complications and mortality of the series. Results: The mean follow-up was 31,3
months (6-118). The most frequent tumor was undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma (33,3%) and the most frequently
performed flap was the rotational latissimus dorsi (53,3%). No vascular complications or postoperative infection were
observed in any of the patients. The most common complication was partial necrosis of the flap surgical wound in four
cases (13.3%). Satisfactory results were obtained in terms of function and aesthetic appearance of the flap. The mortality
rate of the series presented was 34%. Conclusions: Reconstruction of defects after extended oncological surgery for soft
tissue sarcomas using musculocutaneous flaps is an effective option. The use of this technique offers good function and
cosmetic appearance and a low rate of vascular complications. The presence of multidisciplinary teams is necessary to
carry out a comprehensive approach in the planning of these surgeries
