Resumen (ES)

To analyze the results of a surgical procedure it is essential to know the previous situation of the patients. This
study aims to find out how patients enter the waiting list to implant a total knee arthroplasty.Materials and methods.
Prospective multicenter study. The questionnaires of 1036 patients who participated in a study in 9 hospitals have been
analyzed. 68.8% of the cases were women. The mean age was 71.4 years. In addition to anthropometric data,
comorbidities, frontal femoro-tibial deformity, radiological classification of osteoarthritis, and the AKS, WOMAC, and SF12
scales were collected. Results. The mean BMI of the series was 30.7 (SD 5.07). In the most advanced degrees of obesity,
25.5% were women and only 8.9% were men. Little uniformity was found between the patients from one center or another
regarding the preoperative radiological grade. 51.7% of the cases presented a varus deformity that was more frequent in
the male sex and that increased as the BMI increased. Conclusions. Patients eligible for knee arthroplasty are mainly
women, with obesity and between 65 and 70 years of age. Varus deformity is more common in heavier males. The
radiological classification of knee osteoarthritis has not been shown to be a determining factor for the indication for
surgery.
