Resumen (ES)

Recent decades have seen innovation in content and methods of medical education, but its basicstructure has not changed. However, despite innovation and teaching methods, there has been little alteration to the basic structure of medical education. Highlighted ways technology is transforming the entire process of medical education and identified several converging trends that have implication for how medical educators might prepare for the next decade. The trends includes the explosion of new information; all information including bothhealth knowledge and medical records, becoming digital; a new generation of students; the emergence of new instructional technologies; and the accelerating rate of change, especially related to technology. Technology has brought about this cognitive overload and biomedical informatics and information technologies (IT) will be part of the solution.
