Resumen (ES)

37 patellar fractures treated by surgical treatment witb a five years follow-up are studied.Tbe series was classified ento tbree different groups: first group, comminute fractures treated by partial patellectomy (19 cases); second group, comminute fractures treatedby internal fixation (19 cases) and tbird group, non comminuted fractures treated by internal fixation (19 cases), tbe later being used as a test for tbe otber two groups.
The results are considered accordingly to the radiological reduction, range.of knee movement, residual pain and walking hability. The range of movement was similar in both series, excelent and good resuIts in 21% of the total. The partial patellectomy group obtained 68% of good results, and the group treated by internal fixation 47%. The walking hability was better in the partial patellectomy group (95% ) than in the group treated by internal fixation (72% ). Accordingly to the authors experience, the partial patellectomy is the best treatment for comminute patellar fractures, regardless of the age of the patiente.
