Tbe medial collateral ligament is a stabilizer of tbe medial side of the ankle jointagainst valgus stress. Provided tbat sorne of the components of tbis Iigament is intact, noincrement of valgus will be superior to seven degrees. After cutting of the medial collateralIigament the tilt of tbe bindfoot varied between two and tbirteen degrees, but when valgusstresses were applied the increase of valgus varied from tbirteen and tberty degress. Thismay be important in the treatment of hindfoot varus.
