Resumen (ES)

87 cases of Idiopathic Scoliosis surgically corrected with Harrington's instrumentalfusion and some personal details, along the last 18 years (1966-83) are reported, being 33of the main thoracic, 33 thoraco-Iumbar, 15 combined thoracic and lumbar and 6 mainlumber curves. The relationship between the achieved correction and sex, skeletal maturation, numberof vertebrae included in the curve and rotation degree is analysed. The intensity ·of torsion is the main factor which restrains the theorical possibilities ofthe maxim curve correction under instrumental distraction. The achieved correction is progressively lost along the years. Some cases which werereviewed ten years after operation show the Cobb's angulatíon degree similar to thatprevious the operation. On the whole, the results of Harríngton's instrumental correction are overall immediateand permanentely cosmetic, arresting the progressíve evolution of the curve. No neurologic troubles were found. The breakíng of the rod and the loosening of the hook were presented in 19°/. of thecases, without loss of the correction or failure of a solid fusion.
