Resumen (ES)

A study is made of the local changes induced by implants transversinggrowth cartilage. Twenty 5-week-old rats were used. A Kirschner needle 1 mm.of diameter was introduced through an external parapatellar incision into the rightfemur, while a plastic needle of the same dimensions was passed into the left femur. Both needles were advanced until the distal physeal plates were pierced. The ratswere sacrificed in groups of 5 after 1,2,8 and 16 weeks. After soft tissue removal, thedistal femoral ends were processed for histological, histomorphometric and histochemicalstudy. After the second week the physeal portions were taller in the femurs that receivedmetal implants, although the differences were not statistically significant. Noimportant histological differences were noted between the physeal plates correspondingto either implant during the study; alcian blue uptake was likewise similar, with the sole exception of the 16th week, during which uptake was markedly lessintense around the metal implants. To conclude, implant type i s seen to condition thephyseal changes induced.
