Indications of operative treatment of humeral shaft fractures andadvantages and disadventages of the several types of internal fixation deviceswere analyzed.Nicoll's classification was used of 79 cases treated with Hackethal techniqueand one of 25 cases treated with plating techniques was made, relating the meanconsolidation time with the kind of fracture pattern, the level of the fracture,and the presence of conminution. Relation-ship between mean consolidation timeand the grade in Nicoll's classification in the series treated with Hackethal techniqueswas analyzed.
