Resumen (ES)
The purpouse of the present study is to evaluate bone lengthening by means of bone mineral density analysis . We have operated 12 two-month-old lambs .Surgery was performed using a monolateral external fixator (Orthofix DAF) and a diaphyseal femoral osteotomy . Distraction was started after 10 days, and the amount of bone lengthening was 2 centimeters . The lambs were divided into three subgroups according to the postoperative follow-up time of sacrifice . Sacrifice was carried out after 4 weeks of surgery in subgroup A, 9 weeks in subgroup B and 13 weeks in subgroup C. The results were assessed by means of conventional radiology and callus mineral density was measured by means Quantitative Digital Radiology . The results obtained indicate that bone mineral density of the lengthened segment is a valid criteria to evaluate callus development during bone lengthening.
